1. Google Business Profile

This is the listing that shows on Google Maps and in the map results.

2. Google Business Profile

Your primary category is one of the most important settings on your profile.

Have you filled in your services, hours, description and service areas?

3. Google Business Profile

A complete profile gives Google more to match against searches.

Have you added real photos of your work or premises in the last 3 months?

4. Google Business Profile

Fresh, real photos help customers choose you.

Do you ask every customer for a Google review, with a direct link?

5. Reviews

Most happy customers will leave a review if you ask at the right moment.

Did you get at least one new Google review in the last month?

6. Reviews

A steady flow of recent reviews matters to customers and to Google.

Do you reply to every review, including the negative ones?

7. Reviews

Google recommends replying, and future customers read your replies.

Does your business have its own website (not just a social media page)?

8. Website

On a phone, can visitors call you with one tap from the top of every page?

10. Website

Most local searches happen on phones.

Is Google Search Console set up for your website?

11. Search basics

It shows which searches find you and any problems Google sees.

12. Search basics

Think website, Google, Facebook, Apple Maps, Bing and directories.

What this scorecard measures

Local customers usually find businesses through the Google Maps results or the normal search results underneath. Google says it ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence. You can't change your distance from a customer, but almost everything else in this quiz is in your control, and most of it is free.

The questions cover four areas: your Google Business Profile, your reviews, your website, and a couple of search basics. Questions that matter more, like having a verified profile, count more toward your score.

Frequently asked questions

Is this based on Google's real ranking factors?

It's based on what Google publicly recommends for local businesses, plus the basics we see making the biggest difference in practice. Google doesn't publish an exact formula, so treat your score as a guide to what to improve, not a prediction of your ranking.

What if I answered "Not sure"?

"Not sure" counts as a small amount, because you might already be doing it. Your report includes how to check each one.

Do I need to give my email?

No. Your score and top fixes show straight away. The email is only if you want the full action plan sent to you.

Where should I start?

Usually with your profile and reviews. Our Google Business Profile setup guide and how to get more Google reviews cover both step by step.
